How to make a dual extraction dye
[ad_1]
Medicinal fungus products have increased in popularity in the last decade. From chocolate mushroom mushroom coffee, there are many options. A dual extraction mushroom dye is another excellent way to obtain the health benefits of mushrooms!
Mushroom dyes are a practical way to get your daily functional mushrooms. It is easy to add a candle to smoothies, coffee and other foods. Some medicinal fungi are more difficult to digest in their pure form of powder, therefore an extraction helps make them more bioavailable.
Taints are a popular way to extract nutrients and flavors from herbs. These use alcohol to remove beneficial constituents from the plant and in the liquid. Current examples are vanilla extract or plant dyeing. You can also use glycerin (glycerites) or vinegar (plants based on plants) to extract compounds, but these are not technically dyes.
Another way to extract is with an old ordinary water! Things like peppermint tea, the infusion of marshmallow roots and the decoction of elderberry (to make elderberry syrup) all use water as menstrume. These have a much shorter shelf life compared to alcohol dyes. Water also extracts different nutrients from alcohol.
A double extraction combines both an extract of water and an alcohol extract from the same plant together. Usually you did one or the other, but for mushrooms, there are advantages to make a double extraction. Water extracts beta-glucans and polysaccharides, while alcohol removes triterpenes.
How to do a mushroom dyeing
There are many different opinions on the best way to make a mixture of mushrooms. There is not a ton of evidence behind the different methods, it is more preferably. After looking for the different variations, it is the mushroom extract method on which I settled.
You start by putting finely chopped or powdered dry mushrooms in a clean pot. If the parts are too large, they will not also be extracted. And fresh and humid mushrooms are more likely to spoil. I used a mushroom powder, but you can also use filled and dried mushrooms.
These mushrooms stop in alcohol for 2 to 4 weeks. After tending, put alcohol in a clean pot and reserve the mushrooms. Some people use the same mushrooms for water extraction, while others use new ones.
Then you will launch the mushrooms a little in the water, then essay them. Finally, alcohol and water extracts are combined.
What mushrooms to use for a mushroom dyeing
There are a lot of options here. You can use a single type of fungus or a mixture of several. Some mushrooms such as shiitake mushrooms and Maitake have good taste in soups and jumpers. Other mushrooms are more bitter and work better with things or like a dye. Many of them are also nootropes that help the brain.
There is also a debate on the best part of the fungus. The fruit body is the part of the fungus which is above the ground. Mycelium is the underground part. Research shows certain advantages of mycelium in some mushrooms, but most of the time it is not as powerful.
Here are some different options and a brief overview of their health benefits!
- Lion mane (Hericium erinaceus) – supports the immune system and the cognitive function. Also rich in antioxidants, improves memory and mood and reduces inflammation.
- Reishi (Ganoderma) – Reishi Mushroom has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. It helps modulate the immune system, increases healing time and can have a protective effect against cancer. It is an adaptogen that helps protect the heart, liver, brain and more.

How to make a dual extraction dye
This recipe uses both water and alcohol for a more powerful mushroom dye. Use all the dried medicinal mushrooms you want or a mixture of several kinds!
Yield: 16 ounces
- ¾ cup mushroom powder (or finely chopped mushrooms)
- 1 and ¼ cups 190 test alcohol
- 4 cups filtered or distilled water (or more)
-
Place the mushrooms in the glass jar and pour alcohol on top. Put the cover on the pot.
-
Let the mixture stop for 2 to 4 weeks, trembling daily.
-
Filter the alcohol mushroom powder with a cheese and put both side. Pour the infused alcohol in a clean glass jar and place the mushrooms in a clean pot.
-
Add the water to the pot and heat the mixture to the stove. Simmer gently for 2 to 4 hours, adding more water if necessary to prevent combustion. You want the liquid reduced by about half.
-
Filter water and compost mushrooms.
-
You want to have equal parts of alcohol and water extractions. So, if you have ended up with 1 cup of alcohol dye, you will use 1 cup of water infusion. Add additional water or simmer the water until it is the same amount as the alcohol mixture.
-
Add the water mixture to a clean mason jar.
-
Then slowly add the alcohol mixture while stirring. This helps to prevent polysaccharides too much from separating too much from the solution.
-
Pour a part of the mushroom dyeing into a glass dropper bottle to use and fill the Mason jar if necessary.
- Keep your mushroom extract in a cool and dry place far from direct heat and sunlight.
- Take a drop-down account once a day or as you wish.
- If your mushrooms are large pieces, put them as well as alcohol in the mixer after soaking for a few hours. It is an easier way to grind them. Some mushrooms, like Chaga, are really hard and may not mix well.
