An Atlanta-based burger chain is looking to open six restaurants in North and South Carolina. Smalls Sliders, known for its signature orange branding and modular restaurant design, is looking to open in Wilmington and Jacksonville, N.C., as well as Myrtle Beach and Florence, S.C., according to a news release.
The brand builds small-footprint Cans in shipping-container units in a color they call “Smorange.” The first opened as a quick-service restaurant in 2019 and now more than 375 Cans are open or under development.
Many of them are in Louisiana and one recently opened in Spartanburg, S.C.
Carolina Smalls LLC is the company behind a six-unit agreement that promises to bring at least one to Wilmington. The owners said they are considering several sites in the area for the first location, but add that it could be more.
“We plan to bring as many locations as necessary to the people of Wilmington, Jacksonville, Florence, and Myrtle Beach so they never have to wait in too long of a line for a delicious slider,” said a spokesperson for Carolina Smalls. “It could end up being 10-plus units the way these cities are all growing.”
One of the company’s mottos it that the sliders are “small in size but big in taste.” The menu includes sliders, waffle fries, grilled cheese, shakes, as well as “smauce” and queso for dipping. The restaurants have a streamlined drive-thru and a walk-up window.
Locals will know the opening is close when a “Can Drop” happens. That’s the process of placing the 750-square-foot shipping container at a location via a crane.
Restaurateur Brandon Landry is behind the Smalls Sliders brand, which is also backed by 10 Point Capital and former NFL star Drew Brees, as investors, according to the release. Landry and Brees also developed the Walk On’s Sports Bistreaux brand, which recently closed at Independence Mall in Wilmington after three years in business.
